Steve Pochie, a cherished soul whose spirit touched the hearts of many, peacefully passed away on May 4, 2026, at his home in Hurst. Born on October 27, 1951, in Herrin to Charles and Modest (Bowden) Pochie, Steve's 74 years were marked by love, music, and dedication.
Steve shared a lifelong bond with his beloved wife, Connie (Mize) Pochie, who remains by his side. Together, they nurtured a family that flourished with warmth and togetherness. Steve’s daughter, Stephany Pochie of Hurst, and his son Jon, alongside his wife Devyn of Carterville, carry forward his legacy. His loving spirit lives on in four grandchildren—Makenzie Flare of Hurst, Mayson and his wife Jayden Kell, Jameson, and Ronin Pochie of Carterville—and is further embraced by five great-grandchildren: Kortnei Coleman, Huntleigh Price, Ellianna Price, Atlas, and Aria Kell.
Family was everything to Steve, including his special cousins Roxann Brewer Coffee and Michael Bowden. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather Johnny Byrlay, his brother Charles Jr., and a grandson, Michael Diuguid, whose memories remain deeply cherished.
A true artist at heart, Steve found profound joy through music. As the lead singer and guitarist for the band Hix Oil, his melodies and passion echoed the essence of his vibrant soul. When not strumming chords, he found solace by the water, indulging in his love of fishing—a peaceful pastime that reflected his gentle nature.
Steve's professional life was marked by commitment and integrity, retiring from General Cable where he served in quality control. His dedication extended beyond his work, touching all who knew him.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at Van Natta Funeral Home on Thursday at 1:00 p.m., with Reverend Danny Norman officiating. Family and friends are warmly invited to visit on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The final resting place will be at Blairsville Cemetery in Blairsville Illinois.
Steve Pochie’s life was a harmonious blend of love, creativity, and family—a beautiful song that will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him.
