Roxanna K. Musgrave

May 8, 1956 — March 25, 2023

Roxanna K. Musgrave, 66, of Energy Illinois went to her Heavenly Father at 1230 pm Saturday 25 March 2023 at her home.  Roxie was born 8 May 1956 in Elgin, IL to Raymond L. and Evelyn (Dawson) Musgrave of Fairfield, IL. Both parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister Vanessa R. Musgrave of San Antonio, TX.

Roxie loved the Lord and made a lifetime commitment to serving Him. She was a longtime and active memer of Lone Oak Baptist Church in Energy, where she served in many roles. She was primary church pianist, sang in the choir, was Sunday School Superintendent and taught classes and Vacation Bible School, cared for the nursery, managed special events and particpated in many fund-raising activities.

She was a generous and lively person who inspired volunteer work for the church and other charities, especially Stong Survivors cancer rehabilitation team at Southern Illinois University. For over 12 years she was Captain of their fundraising team. They were given 5 years to raise $25,000 for the Cancer Institute but with Roxie's leadership they did it in 2.5 years. She also engineered purchases of various exercise equipment for and renovation of the Rehab Lab. She was a grateful recipient of the support, advice and loving guidance provided by all team members as well as other cancer survivors.

She was devoted to family and friends, supporting her mother and father greatly throughout her life. They camped all over the United States and made life-long friends. She also vacationed with her sister in various parts of the country and they frequently talked, exchanging advice and chat.

In her spare time she continued to play piano as she had a true "ear" to improvise. She was a fiercely loyal friend, actively and frequently meeting with, calling and otherwise supporting friends and family. She was one of the "most generous, gracious, humble, compassionate, hilarious and spirited" people in the lives of those she encountered.

She had a Master's Degree in Religious Education from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY and a Bachelor's Degree from Greenville College, Greenville, IL. She worked for over 30 years for WPS Insurance company and later for the Carterville Water Department.

Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Friday 31 March at Lone Oak Baptist Church in Energy, IL, with a service at 7 pm. Graveside service will be on Saturday 1 April at 1 pm at Maple Hill Cemetary in Fairfield, IL. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin, IL.  Donations can be made to Strong Survivors Cancer Rehabilitation Center or  Lone Oak Baptist Church.  They can be sent to Van Natta Funeral Home, 427 South Park Avenue, Herrin IL 62948
