Richard Lee VanDoren

Richard Lee VanDoren, 61, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023. Born in Springfield, Illinois to Roger and Ella VanDoren  (Forbes), Richard's life was a testament to love and dedication.

In his marriage to Christy Henderson on April 14, 2003, Richard found a partner who brought joy and warmth to his days. They shared a bond that was filled with laughter and unwavering support.

A loving father, Richard is survived by his daughter Hayley and her husband Tyler Matheny of Marion, along with their two beautiful children, Braxten and Kinsey. Richard adored his grandchildren and cherished the precious moments they spent together.

Richard was a devoted brother. He leaves behind two brothers, Marty and his wife Sandy VanDoren of Mattoon, Illinois; Mike of Pana, Illinois; two sisters, Lavie and her husband Ray Michel of Crossville, Tennessee; Gayle Hobbs of Taylorville, Illinois; as well as several nieces and nephews. Richard held a special place in his heart for his extended family and cherished the bonds that they shared.

Richard served his country with honor as a member of the Airforce for 20 years. His dedication and sacrifice were an inspiration to all who knew him.

In his professional life, Richard worked at Maytag in Herrin before becoming an Account Tech at SIU Carbondale. Throughout his career, he displayed professionalism and dedication in all that he pursued.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin at 1:00 pm. Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation starting at 11:00 am on the same day. Reverend Greg Parker will officiate the service, offering words of comfort and solace.

Richard Lee VanDoren will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, and friend. His gentle spirit, kind heart, and unwavering love will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known him.
