Richard Byrnes, a beloved member of the Carterville School District community, has passed away at the age of 77. Born on November 9, 1945, in DuQuoin, Illinois, Richard led a remarkable life filled with love, dedication, and a passion for service.

Richard dedicated many years of his life to the Carterville School District as a custodian. His commitment to keeping the school clean and creating a safe environment for the students and staff was unmatched. His diligence and hard work were greatly appreciated by all who knew him.

Outside of his career, Richard had an adventurous spirit and pursued his hobbies with great enthusiasm. He had a profound love for bass fishing and was an avid member of both the SI bass Club and Angler's Choice. Richard enjoyed spending time on the water, casting his line, and embracing the beauty of nature.

Richard's warm heart extended beyond his hobbies; he touched the lives of many people through his kindness and generosity. He was always there to lend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement to those in need. Richard had a way of making everyone around him feel appreciated and loved.

Richard's passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family and friends who will cherish their memories together forever. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Opal (Gogue) Byrnes, his wife Lynn (Gentry) Byrnes, one son-in-law George Baker Jr., one grandson Levi (Bluegill) Byrnes-Gale, and one brother Leon Byrnes.

Richard is survived by his loving son Rick Byrnes of Tamaroa; two daughters Tonya Byrnes-Baker of Murphysboro and Rashon  Byrnes and Allen Smith of Murphysboro; stepchildren Stephanie and husband Dale Reeder, John Bart and wife Molly Esch, Brett and wife Patty Esch; one sister Johanne Bowlby; sixteen grandchildren - Kory, Annastasia, Tyler, Hailey, Evan, Brayden, Riley, Mariah, Jarrod, Stacey, Jordan, Taylor, Kyle, Kimberly, Katie and Kalli; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Cindy Byrnes.

Richard's life will be celebrated on Monday  October 30, 2023. A Funeral Service will be held at Van Natta Funeral Home located at 427 S Park Ave in Herrin, IL.  at 1:00 pm and visitaion will be from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm. Burial will be in the Egyptian Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Herrin. Rev. Ralph Brand will officiate the service. The family would prefer casual attire.
Richard Byrnes will forever be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his work and his warm-hearted nature. His legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire and bring comfort to all those whose lives he touched. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
