It is with profound love and sorrow that we share the news of the passing of Mary Ann Rodgers. She peacefully left this world on October 17, 2025 at the age of 85.
Mary Ann was born on February 24, 1940. She was the daughter of George L. and Beulah Roberts of Sturgis Kentucky.After graduating from high school in Sturgis Kentucky, she attended Murray State University. She later graduated from SIU with a bachelor’s degree in health education.She married David Rodgers of Morganfield, KY, on May 26, 1961. They lived in Illinois, Kentucky, Wyoming, North Dakota, and eventually settled in Southern Illinois. Her most rewarding accomplishment was her love for her children, as well as the foster children she and her husband helped raise. She was a substitute teacher in middle and high schools in Carbondale, loved teaching Sunday School, Bible School, and being a Girl Scout Leader. She was also a CPR instructor, Red Cross volunteer, and taught at Head Start. She enjoyed raising collies, going to flea markets, fishing, and loudly rooting for her Dallas Cowboys. Her top priority was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her children: Shannon (Tee) Ramos of Hilton Head Island, SC; Kim (Tim) Riley of New Cumberland, PA; Julie (Mark) Hazel of Tunnel Hill, IL; and Michael (Angela) Rodgers of Chester, IL. Grandchildren: Skylar Ramos, Zach Ramos, Cody (Nicki) Wilson, Kasey (Andrew) Shank, Sonya (Justin) Dilday, Stephanie (Danny) Phoenix, Holly (Zach) Danbury, Hannah (Justin) Reiman, Collette (Zach) Bowlby, Whitney (David) Meadows, Shay (Alec) Gold, Wyatt Rodgers, and Colton Rodgers. Great-grandchildren: Cohen, Nicholas, Bruce, Nora, Mason, Myles, Maddox, Heidi, Cecil, Greta, Izzy, Ginny, Wesley, Josie, Zoey, Maggie, Mila, Luca, Kiah, and one on the way. Other surviving family includes two sisters-in-law, Janice (Rod) Nelson and Carol (Jim) Tapp, and many nieces and nephews. And her beloved companion of 20 years, her cat Snowy. She was preceded in death by her husband David Rodgers, son Brent Rodgers, parents George L. and Beulah Roberts, sister and brother-in-law Bette Rayburn and James Rayburn, mother- and father-in-law Gertude and Ted Rodgers, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Shirley Wilson and Gene Wilson.A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Van Natta Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
