John Chester Black passed away peacefully at his home on July 4, 2018. "Jay" was born Aug. 8, 1931, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Frank and Minnie (Wilson) Black. He honorably served his country as a Seaman in the U.S. Navy. He married Marian on Sept. 3, 1955, and she preceded him in death Aug. 4, 1999. He was a retired salesman from G.E. and also a part-time police officer in Palos Hills. He has spent the last 18 years as the "Old Man" working at Herrin Wash-n-Go car wash. Jay is survived by son, Don, and granddaughter, Jessica of Casper, Wyoming; son and daughter-in-law, John and Donna, and grandchildren, Johnny and Tina Black, all of Herrin. Per his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no services. In the words of his family, "Pops" you have taken a huge piece of our hearts, but left us with so much love and many great memories.
