Jacquelynn, “Jackie” Goins Johnson of Aiken, South Carolina, formally of Herrin passed away Tuesday March 8, 2022. Jackie was born February 18, 1936 in Herrin, Illinois to Thomas and Myrta Eason Goins, the youngest of 7 children. Jackie married the love of her life Jim “JJ” Johnson on October 6, 1956. They started dating in the summer of 1953 and celebrated 53 years of marriage until Jim’s death on October 18, 2009. She worked for Sears Catalog Sales office in Herrin, retiring after 25 years. She worked for XL Hardware in Herrin until the store closed and later worked part time for Boren's IGA Foodliner in Herrin. She was a Life Member of Marion VFW Post #1301 Auxiliary serving one term each as Sr Vice President, Jr Vice President, Chaplain, Secretary and six terms as Auxiliary President, and one term as District #15 VFW Auxiliary President. She was a member of the Auxiliary Ritual Team, and was the Auxiliary Bingo Caller. She was instrumental in starting the first Jr Girls Unit to the Auxiliary and District #15 and was a member and former Secretary of Hurricane Cemetery Association. She was a member of the Retail Clerks Union. She was a life long resident of Herrin until she moved to Aiken, South Carolina in November of 2016. She was a 1954 graduate of Herrin Township High School. She is survived by two sons Brad and Anna Mae Johnson of Aiken SC, Jim, Jr and Kellie Johnson of Herrin, Grandsons, Graham and Leslie Johnson, Joshua Johnson and friend Emily Kern of Herrin and Granddaughter Lindsay and Terry Newman of Augusta, Ga., three Great Grandsons Silas and Samuel Johnson of Herrin, Brian Harman of Aiken SC and Great Granddaughters Amanda Harman of Aiken SC and Lily Newman of Augusta, Ga., niece Mona and Sam Shemwell of Herrin, nephews Tim and Pam Kulik of Royalton (Jackie and Tim did a lot of antiquing, shopping going to old cemeteries and having lunch almost every day. He was her best buddy after Jim passed away). Darryl Kulik of Houston Texas, Steve and Elena Goins of Herrin and many other nieces and nephews. She attended Harvest Time Worship Center in Herrin before moving to South Carolina and attended Grace Covenant Church of God in New Ellenton, SC. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, mother and father in law, grandparents, three brothers, Ralph, Chester and Ferrell Goins and three sisters Ruby Vaughn, Joan Kulik and Judith Elayne Leeper. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Herrin City Cemetery. Services will be held at Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin, IL with visitation at 11 and service 1pm on Monday, March 14, 2022 with her Great Niece, Rev. Stephanie Shemwell Voss officiating.
