Jack M. Carico, Sr. of Herrin, Ill., passed away on July 30, 2019, at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy. Jack was born in Herrin on April 14, 1928. After enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1946, he was stationed in Landshut, Germany, where he met and married Rose Jungwirth Neumann. In 1950, Jack was sent to Korea, and following his discharge in 1952, the family moved to Arnot. For over 35 years, Jack worked at Ingersoll Rand, and he and Rose raised their six children. Jack is survived by his children: Rosemarie (Robert A., deceased) Lugg, Nelson, Ilonka (Jessie) Johnson, Energy, Ill., Jack (Judi) Carico, Jr., College Park, Wash., MaryLou (Dan) Ingram, Jemison, Ala., Kathleen Carico (Barb Smith), Covington, and Michael (Sherie) Carico, Winston Salem, N.C.; and by 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.Jack and Rose moved back to Herrin in 2004. For the last few years of Rose’s life, Jack was her loving caregiver, and for the last few years of his life, daughter Ilonka looked after him. When his condition necessitated professional care, the family moved Jack to the veteran’s home. The family is deeply grateful to the staff at Quincy.
