George Burl Moore, age 87, passed away at his home in Carterville, February 1, 2024. Surrounded by his loving family, George's journey in this world ended. He was born on December 26, 1936, in Glenmore, Louisiana to Edward and Versie (West) Moore.

In his early years, George worked as a Forest Ranger in Louisiana before moving to Herrin, where he dedicated many years of his life while working at Norge until his retirement in 2001. His dedication and commitment were truly remarkable.

George was a man of strong character and values. He found great joy and fulfillment within the Masonic community, as a member of Herrin Masonic Lodge #693—this sense of fellowship extended to his involvement with the 2nd Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.

On April 19, 1955, George married Villida Wagley, who remained by his side throughout their beautiful 68 years journey together. Their love and devotion served as an inspiration to all who knew them.

George will be forever cherished by his family. He is survived by his two sons, George and wife Lisa Moore of Mulkeytown, Richard and wife Melodie Moore of Carterville, respectively. Additionally, George leaves behind two daughters, Debra and husband David Ginther from Herrin, and Donna Cislaghi and Fiancé Dave Edds from Goreville. They were both fortunate to have shared their lives with such a remarkable father.

A strong sense of sibling bond ran through George's life. He is survived by his brothers Barney Moore of Oakdale LA and Raymond Moore with wife Mattie Gene of Glenmore LA. His sister Dorothy Ernest from Covington LA also remains to honor his memory.

George will forever be remembered as an adoring grandfather to ten grandchildren: Jason Reynolds of Carterville; Kristopher and Brittany Triplett of Herrin; April and Steve Penley of Marion; Joshua Myogeto of Marion; Danyale and Akoni Hollis of  LA; Hollie and Eric Ray of Energy; Courtney Cislaghi and fiancé Tony Mezo of Herrin, Jori Moore of Mulkeytown; Jake and Jamie Moore of Crab Orchard; Zakary Moore and fiancée Katelyn Hopper of Pueblo CO. He was also beloved by twenty-two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters, and one great grandchild. Yet, his memory will always shine bright in the hearts of those who loved him dearly.

Friends and family are invited to pay their final respects to George during the visitation on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, starting at 11:00 am at the Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Josh Wehrmeier and Don Colson. The burial will take place in the peaceful grounds of Herrin City Cemetery.

In recognition of George's unwavering commitment to his Masonic brethren, a special Masonic Rites ceremony will be held at noon on Tuesday conducted by Herrin Masonic Lodge.

As we say our final goodbyes today, let us remember the remarkable life that George Moore lived. His infectious warmth and unwavering love for his family will forever be etched in our hearts.
