Delores Ann (Smith) Griffith, 87 years old, passed away peacefully at home on July 19, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on February 12, 1938 to John and Mildred (Harrelson) Smith.
She married Charles Boner in 1981. He preceded her in death in 2008. Then, she married Eddie Griffith who survives of Herrin.
Dee worked at Norge, and then pursued her beautician license. She was a beautician at Marinello’s in Herrin until opening up her own shop at home where she did hair for many years. She also traveled to many local nursing homes to continue doing clients’ hair when they were unable to travel to her. In 2000, she opened an assisted living facility for a few years and was very proud to help the elderly continue to live comfortably with minimal assistance. She had a love for people and helping them whenever she could—especially her children and grandchildren.
Before her health started to fail, Dee loved to play Bingo, go to Las Vegas, and bowled on a league for many years. She also enjoyed shopping, crocheting, and quilting. She created many beautiful blankets for each of her loved ones that are very precious keepsakes to them. She and Eddie traveled in their motor home to Arizona and Mexico during winter months for several years, and those trips were very special to her. As her health declined and she became more confined to sitting, she spent time beading jewelry and other accessories and enjoyed creating intricate diamond dot pictures.
She is survived by her husband, Eddie of Herrin. She is also survived by 3 children—Rick, Carla, and Russell (Paula). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren—Johnathon, Billy, Bobbie, and Mary Ann of Tennessee —Jessica, Felicia, and Casey of Herrin, IL — Cody and Cory of Carterville, IL — Tara and Tristan of West Frankfort, IL. Also surviving is her sister, Arla Clark of Herrin who she was very close to. She is also survived by another daughter-in-law, Janice, 20 great-grandchildren, special nieces— Carolyn and Marilyn, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son— Randy Hubbard, and two brothers— JD Smith and Paul Smith.
Her wishes were to be cremated and buried beside her parents. There will be a private family graveside service at a later date.
