Bobby Don Sullenger, a distinguished Herrinite, passed away peacefully in St. Louis at 3:39 a.m. on March 31, 2024 at the age of 80. Born on April 24, 1943 in Herrin to Ray and Pauline (McCall) Sullenger, Bobby Don’s compassionate spirit touched the lives of many.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Fran, his sons, Paul Sullenger and Ronnie McAbee, his sister, Janis Day, of Griffith, Indiana and his faithful pet, Chase. Bobby Don’s kindness extended not only to his family but also to the furry friends who have preceded him in death; Sera, Prissy, Mr. Lucky and Boo.
In his lifetime, Bobby Don had a passion for driving race cars and also found joy in creating a non-profit establishment called Sera's House to feed the needy dogs of Southern Illinois. Instead of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Herrin Animal Shelter to honor his legacy of compassion.
Bobby Don was a respected entrepreneur as the owner and operator of Custom Tours and Travel. Upon retiring, he sold his company to his top-notch employees, Mike Murphy and Tim Waller. He enjoyed sponsoring HerrinFest Beauty Pageants as well as the Miss Illinois Beauty Pageants in Chicago.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the funeral service which will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. The final resting place will be in the Egyptian Memorial Cemetery in Herrin. Bobby Don served in the Navy and military rites will be performed by the VFW and American Legion Post from Herrin and Carterville at the cemetery on Saturday.
Bobby Don Sullenger’s memory will live on through the countless lives he touched with his generosity and kindness.
