Marie Lyell

Marie (Parsons) Lyell passed away December 8, 2010 at the age of 99. Marie was born on September 23, 1911 in Creal Springs, Illinois. For the past 19 years Marie has received loving and devoted care while she lived with her daughter Mona (Lyell) Wollard in Pensacola, Florida. Marie & Leroy lived for many years in Chittyville until they moved to their home on 20th street in Herrin. Marie was married for 58 years to Rev. Leroy Lyell who worked for many years at the Zeigler Coal Mine as well as being a United Methodist Pastor. During the many years Leroy served as Pastor in the United Methodist Church in Southern Illinois Marie worked closely at his side in service to their Lord. Marie will be best remembered by her beautiful smile and gentle spirit, as well as her wonderful baking and cooking skills. . She leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Mona (Lyell) Wollard & her husband Edward and Alice (Lyell) Baugh & her husband Roy, eight grandchildren, James Monroe, Gregory Monroe, Christian Vollmer, Cynthia Baldauf, Kevin Baugh, Amanda Hessel, eighteen great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren. Her parents Albert & Mahala Parsons preceded her in death, as well as her two brothers, Reverend Vernon Parsons, Leamon Parsons, and her sister Edith (McPherron) Slusher. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Children’s Home, 2023 Richview Road, Mt. Vernon, Illinois 62864-2884 A funeral service will be held for Marie at the Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin, Illinois Monday at 1:00pm. Visitation will be form 11:00am until 1:00pm at the funeral home Rev. Sam Totten will officiate and the burial will be in the Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin.
