Dora Shanke

Herrin - Funeral services for Dora Luise Andres Shanke, 89, formerly of 420 South 18th Street will be held at a later date at the First United Methodist Church in Herrin, Illinois. She died at the Shawnee Christian Nursing Center where she had resided since 2006. Dora was born October 6, 1920 in Schoneberg, Germany to Albert and Luise Paschkowitz Andres. She married Reynold Shanke of Germany. He preceded her in death on January 23,1981. She had been a factory worker and a homemaker, was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Herrin, and a member of the Willing Workers for many years. Her talent as a seamstress was admired by all. Dora had three brothers. Heinz Andres and wife, Adele, of Herrin, Il., Herman Andres and wife Mary, of Coral Springs, Fl., and Herbert Andres and wife Lottie of Magdeburg,East Germany which all preceded her in death except for Lottie. Nephews and wives included Heinz Andres and Walli and Gerhard Andres and Antje of Germany and Ernest Andres and wife Barbara of Wisconsin. Heinz is deceased. Nieces were Annette Jacobs and husband Robert and Juanita Andres of Illinois. She is survived by many great and great great nieces and nephews, both in the U.S. and in Germany. Dora has left her family and friends with many fond memories and she was loved by all who came in contact with her. She always had a gentle smile for everyone. The family is extremely grateful for all of the care given to Dora by the Nursing Home, Hospice, her church family and all of her wonderful friends. Thank you for all your prayers and support.
