Mr. John Allen Popham, 91 of Herrin, Illinois died on Thursday, November 19, 2009, at Herrin Hospital in Herrin, Illinois.Born Sunday, October 27, 1918 in Herrin, Illinois, he was the son of the late Thomas Popham and the late Gretta Moore. He was the husband of Leota (Walker) Popham she survives. He was a Veteran of World War II.He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Dianna Cothran of Elgin, IL and Mrs. Sharon Simpson of Elgin, IL. 1 step daughter Julie McDonnald-Miller of Waren-Robins Ga. 9 gr ch, Randy, John and William Popham , Denise McCuistion, John, James, Thomas Cothran, Timothy Kilz , Megan Miller and Ian Miller, 21 great gr ch, 7 great great gr ch. Also 2 nephews survive Thomas and Donald Popham. Mr. Popham was preceded in death by his parents ,1st wife Magge (Adams) Popham 1son Robert, 1 grand daughter Elizabeth LLamas, 5 brothers 1 neice Joyce Botkin. Mr. Popham was retired from East Texas Motor Freight as a Truck Driver. He was a member of 1st United Methodist Church, Carterville Masonic Lodge and served in WWII in the Army. The family would like to thank Dr. Pramote and his staff and the nurses at the Herrin Hospital for their special care. Memorial donations can be made to St. Judes Childrens Hospital envelopes will be provided by the funeral home. Military rites will be preformed by Herrin American Legion and V.F.W Posts A Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at Van Natta Funeral Home located at Herrin, Illinois 62948 with the Rev. Don Colson officiating. Interment will be in Herrin City Cemetery, Herrin, IL.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, November 23, 2009, at Van Natta Funeral Home Herrin, Illinois and masonic rites will be at 7:00pm.
