HERRIN - Mrs. Lavina Raye Wallace, 80, died Monday, April 27, 2009, in Herrin Hospital, Mrs. Wallace was born Thursday, July 5, 1928, in Herrin to Curtis and Allie (Dixon) Yates, She married Gilbert Wallace of Herrin. They had one daughter, Brenda Kaye. Both preceded her in death. What a joy to know she is with her Gib and Brennie once again. Mrs. Wallace worked her entire life in the medical field, starting out with Dr. Tidwell and ending up with Marion Eye Center. She was a member of Herrin First Baptist Church and a Sunday school teacher of the Agape (love) class. She was a member of Herrin Women's Club and many other organizations. Survivors include a niece, Paula (Bruce) Gosnell of Johnson City; a nephew, Larry (Pat) Magnotti of Herrin; great-nieces, Melissa Crites and Jody Seely of Herrin, Wendy Hatfield of Nebraska and Teri Magnotti of California; many great-nephews; great-great nieces; great-great-nephews; and many dear friends that were close to her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Allie Yates; husband, Gib; a daughter, Brenda; sisters, Ruby Moses and Gladys Monolo; brothers, Lloyd Yates and Herbert Yates; nephews, Bob Yates, Doug Magnotti and Sonny Yates. She was an inspiration to all that knew her. Her love of the Lord was shared with everyone. She will be sadly missed by all that knew her. There will always be a loss in our hearts. Our loss is Heaven's gain. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Van Natta Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Tirey officiating. Interment will be in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m.
