Ferdinand Ardell Thornton, , 88 of Herrin, Illinois died on Sunday, March 8, 2009, at Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Marion, Illinois.Born Sunday, June 27, 1920 in Pinckneyville, Illinois, he was the son of the late James Ferdinand Thornton and the late Stella Manda. He was united in marriage to Lois Cesar Thornton April5, 1945 in Calf. together they shared 63 years 11 month and 3 days. Also surviving is daughters and son-in-laws, Sharee and Richard Robb of Pennsylvania, Lisa Thornton of Cape Girardeau Mo., son and daughter-in-law Gary and CaraThornton of Clearwater Fl. Other survivors include two sisters Augusta Thomas of Pinckneyville and Deanna and Bob Anderson of Washington Ill., Three grand children, Cory and Melissa Robb of Cannonsburg PA., Hedi and Jeff Zapotoczny of Phoniex Arz. and Catherine Thornton of Clearwater Fl. one great grandchild, Desmond Robb Cannonsburg PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Richard Thornton,four sisters Edna Harriss, Elsie Blair, Geraldine Donnough and Mable Livingston. Two brothers Hershal and Berthal Thornton, one grandchild Heath Robb. He was employed by Carpenter and was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Herrin, Herrin Masonic Lodge and Airforce.He was a Veteran of World War II. A funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Van Natta Funeral Home located at 427 South Park Avenue Herrin, Illinois 62948 with the Rev. Don Grammer officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, March 13, 2009, at Van Natta Funeral Home, 427 South Park Avenue , Herrin, Illinois.
