Eva Hindman

October 7, 1920 — October 25, 2015

Eva Chloe (Sanders) Hindman, 95, of Herrin passed away Monday, October 26, 2015, at Herrin Hospital. Eva was born October 7, 1920, in Johnston City, to a coal miner and a schoolteacher - Jacob and Alma (Veatch) Sanders. She was a proud alumnus of Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky. After college she was a teacher at Chittyville School. Eva married James Hindman on November 18, 1950. Jim and Eva lived for many years in the house he built on South 7th Street in Herrin. They were active members of the Herrin First United Methodist Church, where “Grandma Eva” spent many years serving as the Sunday School teacher for two- and three-year-olds. Eva was preceded in death by her parents, sister June, and brother Jack. She is survived by her husband; her children, Daphne (Doug) Burr in Oklahoma, Keith (Sharon) in Kansas, and Melanie (Dan) Kinnell in Kentucky; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The children would like to thank the community of family, friends, and neighbors for the support that they so generously gave for Mom. We would especially like to thank Gina McGoin, our sister on the journey, for the extraordinary care only a family member would give. A Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday at First United Methodist Church located at 301 South 16th Street Herrin, Illinois 62948 with the Rev. Bill Wiggs officiating. Interment will be in Herrin City Cemetery, Herrin, IL. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at Van Natta Funeral Home, 427 South Park Avenue , Herrin, Illinois.
