HELEN MAE (APPLEGATH) DEWEES RAYBOURN OF HERRIN, IL Helen Mae (Applegath) Dewees Raybourn of Herrin, died Friday Jan. 2, 2009. She was born April 15, 1915 in Christopher, IL the daughter of Fredrick Irving and Ella Doris Applegath. She was a long time member of the First Christian Church of Herrin.She graduated from Herrin High School 1931 as “girl making the highest average”. She worked at Norge starting in 1959 as a payroll clerk and retired in 1978 as acting comptroller of the Norge Herrin Division of Fedders. She married Bergen Dewees in Herrin, IL. In 1936. Following his death in 1965 she married Roy Raybourn in Marion in 1970 who died in 1990. She is survived by son, Joseph (wife Becky) Dewees of Herrin, son, Andrew (wife Carolyn) Dewees of Huntsville, TX. brother, Fred (wife Wanda) Applegath of Texas City, TX., step-granddaughter Christy (husband Jack) Reed of Marion, step-grandson Mark Russell of DuQuoin, granddaughters Elizabeth (husband Patrick) Schumann of Glendale, MO, Christine (husband James) Hennessy of Hinsdale, IL, Emily (husband Curtis Campbell) Dewees of Austin ,TX , Deborah Dewees of New York City and Laurel (husband Kevin) Dunayer of Manassas, VA, great-grandchildren Caroline and Andrew Schumann , Patrick and Grace Hennessy, Aaron Campbell and Amelia and Max Dunayer; step-great grandchildren Nickie (husband Kenny)Branson and family of Marion, Mark Henshaw (wife Shay) and family of Marion , Brian Reed of Carterville, step-grandchildren Page (husband Kelly)Fox and family of Athens, IL, Jarod Short and family of Winchester, IL and Abbe (husband Eric) Little and family of Winchester, IL and three nieces and six nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Bergen Dewees, second husband Roy Raybourn, sisters Marie (Applegath) and Florence (Applegath) Lauder, sister-in-law Ruby (Dewees) Brummet, brothers-in-law Paul, Charles and Jesse Dewees and step- daughter Patsy Raybourn Masters.Van Natta Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will meet friends and family from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on Friday, Jan. 9 at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held Sat. Jan 10 at 11:00 am at East Lawn Memorial Gardens.In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Herrin First Christian Church, Shawnee Christian Nursing Center or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
