Jerry Smith

Mr. Jerry Smith, , age 56, of Herrin, IL, died Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at his home in Herrin, IL from his battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Christopher on August 30, 1958 to Lester and Virginia (Rogers) Smith. He was the owner of Gift World and Jerry's Body shop both in Herrin. Mr. Smith was an excellent woodworker and enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Jerry had a heart as big as the world and never turned his back on anyone in need. Jerry is survived by his former wife Phyllis (Duncan) Smith of Herrin, his mother, 1 son Jeremy Smith and fiancée Katie Vordtriede of Herrin, 2 sisters and their spouses, Sandra and Meredith Mitchell of DuQouin , Loretta and Emmett Klump of Pocahontas Ill., 1 brother Allen and Rashon Smith of Murphysboro. Mr. Smith is also survived by 3 grand children; Jordan, Anna and Addison Smith , also special friend Sherrie Casey and several aunts, uncles and nieces and nephews. Special thank you to Hospice nurses, Sage, Pat and Amanda and Dr. Jeff Parks. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father. Arrangements are being handled by Van Natta Funeral Home, 427 South Park, Herrin, IL where the family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM, Friday, November 14, 2014. Funeral service will be at Van Natta Funeral Home at 6:30 PM, Friday, November 14, 2014, Rev. Don Colson officiating. Inurnment will be at Egyptian Memorial Gardens on Monday at 1:00pm at the cemetery. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois Inc.
