Mr. John Bowen, 91 of Herrin, Illinois died on Sunday, June 15, 2014, at his home. Born Tuesday, December 5, 1922 in Energy, Illinois to Carl Sr. and Susie (Brown) Bowen. He was proceeded in death by his parents, His wife Eula Mae (Reynolds) Bowen who died October 4, 1999, three brothers; Carl Jr., Paul and Ray, and a sister Elise Ashby. Surviving are John's son Brad (Sandy) Bowen of Greendale, Indiana, his daughter Debbie (Tom) McVey of Herrin, three grand children; Jennifer (Todd) Egler of Bradenton, Florida, Jessica Thompson of Marion and Whitney McVey of Herrin. Also surviving are five great grandchildren Kailey Bouguen, Jase Egler, Genesis Thompson, Zepplin Thompson and Alexis Thompson and a brother, Leonard (Judy) Bowen of Pekin, Illinois. John served in the U.S. Army during the Second World War and when he was discharged he worked for the Inland Steel Coal Mines and Allen's Industries. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Energy. A Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday at Van Natta Funeral Home located at 427 South Park Avenue Herrin, Illinois 62948 with the Rev. Don Colson officiating. Interment will be in Herrin City Cemetery, Herrin, IL. Military rites will be preformed by American Legion and V.F.W. and the Army honor detail at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Van Natta Funeral Home, 427 South Park Avenue , Herrin, Illinois.
