Hillard Slone, Jr., 86 of Christopher, Illinois died on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at his home in Christopher, Illinois. He was a WWII Veteran and served in the Army in France and Germany. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the U.M.W.A., American Legion and the V.F.W. He loved his family and enjoyed gardening. He also enjoyed sitting in his rocker and helping neighbors and friends. He moved to Christopher in 1968 Wheelwright Kty. for Inland Coal Company he retired in 1990. He was well known for his since of humor and practical jokes and his kind heartedness and generosity to all. Born Saturday, August 13, 1927 in Water Gap, Kentucky to Hillard Sr. and Linnie (Porter) Slone. He was the husband of Jean (Douglas) Slone they were married 65 years she survives. Also surviving is 2 daughters; Tracey Petro of Christopher and Sandy Crnokrak and husband Kent of Collinsville Ill. He also had 3 Grand children; Rachel Crnokrak-Hagan and husband Rob of St. Louis MO., Joshua and wife Tiffany Petro of Sesser and Jessica Petro of West Frankfort Ill., and 2 great grand children; Brooklyn and Brody Petro both of Sesser. Mr. Slone was preceded in death by his parents 1 sister Virginia Holbrook and 1 brother Ralph Slone. A memorial service will be at 6:00 PM on Wednesday at Van Natta Funeral Home located at Rt. 148 Between Christopher and Sesser Mulkeytown, Illinois 62865 with military rites preformed by American Legion and the V.F.W. at 8:00pm.
