Herrin:Mr. Art Lee Schoolcraft, 86 of Carbondale, Illinois died on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at his home in Carbondale, Illinois.Born Wednesday, June 15, 1927 in Carterville, Illinois to Raymond and Stella (Curry) Schoolcraft. He was the husband of Juanita (Prather) Schoolcraft they were married for 54 years. Art is survived by his wife, 2 sons and their wives; Darren and Jeanette Schoolcraft of Crab Orchard Estates, Art Lee Jr. and Mindy Schoolcraft of Downers Grove Ill, 4 grand children; Tyler, Chloe and Sydney all of Downers Grove and Ashley of Crab Orchard Estates. He is also survived by 2 sister-in -laws and 1 brother-in-law, Virginia Schoolcraft of Carbondale and Jack and Bernice Prather of Herrin. Art also had several nieces and nephews and his dog and best friend Missy . He was preceded in death by his parent and 1 brother Bill.He was retired from SIU after 39 years, where he was supervisor of of their lock smith deptment. Art served in the Army as a nurse and in the Air Force as a photographer. Mr. Schoolcraft was the founder of the Little Egypt Bass Club, raced stock cars in the 50's and 60's , was owner of A1 lock and Safe in Herrin and was a faithful member of Community Chapel Church in Marion.A Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday at Van Natta Funeral Home located at 427 South Park Avenue Herrin, Illinois 62948 with the Rev. Don Colson and Tim Jeralds officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Carterville, IL.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Van Natta Funeral Home, 427 South Park Avenue , Herrin, Illinois.
