HERRIN -- Roberta Wallis, 84, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at her home. She was born Tuesday, May 7, 1929, in Central City, to Robert and Ruby (Carter) McClelland. Survivors include two daughters, Betsy Wallis of Herrin and Jacke Yates of Spokane , Wash. ; one stepdaughter, Janet and husband, Jerry Williamson of Dongola; several nieces and nephews; three granddaughters and several great- and great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves several close friends, Bernice Wolenharpt, Mary Lynn and Harry Calcaterra and Eileen Richards. Roberta worked at Hayes Chevrolet, Bornes IGA, Baccus Roofing and Siding in Herrin and Hoosier Air Photo in Indianapolis . She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Helen Mullins and Arlene Rodgers; and a daughter, Sandy Wallis McPheron. Roberta was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where she served as an extraordinary minister. She also was a member of Daughters of Isabella and past president of Herrin Business and Professional Women's Club. She was an avid reader and loved to work crossword puzzles and play Solitaire five different ways. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 13, in Van Natta Funeral Home, with Monsignor Kenneth Schaefer officiating. Interment will be in San Carlo Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 427 S. Park Ave. , in Herrin.
