Lillian Montgomery

Lillian Imogene Montgomery passed away early March 2, 2014 at home with family and her beloved dog Molly Mae. She was born November 27, 1932, in Paulton, the daughter of Alvin Edward Boswell and Berniece Gibbons. She married Harry Montgomery Jr. on her seventeenth birthday and they enjoyed 55 years together raising four children, with 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Junior’s livelihood was owning, training and racing thoroughbred horses and this took them many different places throughout their lifetime. Although they never owned a horse entered in the Kentucky Derby they attended several times once riding Junior’s motorcycle to the event. Junior preceded her in death Dec 29, 2004. She is also preceded in death by her father and stepmother, A. Edward and Leverne Boswell and her stepfather and mother, Robert and Berniece Throgmorton. She is predeceased by her inlaws, Harry & Artie Montgomery, brother and sister in law, Ray & Ila Flatt and their sons, Farrell Ray and Jim Flatt, and by two brothers, Royall and Rodney Hannis as well as many other aunts, uncles and cousins. She leaves to treasure her memory, her four children and their families: Terryl Montgomery , Rhonda (Terry)Hutson, Hoppy (Lori)Montgomery, Marcy (Darren) Arnett. Four sisters and their families: Faye (Doyle) Stegall, Janice (Glen) Gray, Carolyn Montgomery and Connie Key. And her much loved grandchildren, great grandchildren, lifelong friend Zella Bates and her faithful companion Molly Mae. Services will be held at Van Natta Funeral Home on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will begin at noon. Burial will follow in Hammond Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern IL or to the Hammond Cemetery and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
