Charles ‘Bob’ Bauman CARBONDALE — Charles Robert “Bob” Bauman, 66, died at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, following a brief illness. He was born Dec. 30, 1946, along with his twin brother, William, the son of William and Shirley (Cook) Bauman in Decatur-Macon County Hospital in Decatur . Robert graduated from Herrin High School class of 1965 and SIU Carbondale where he studied political science and international affairs. While at SIU, he was heavily involved in student government and many other student activities, and particularly Model United Nations. He traveled to Germany and throughout Europe to participate in Model UN programs. He was a business man for many years in Carbondale and throughout Southern Illinois, and the Midwest and was especially proud of serving Carbondale as a select member of the most recent Carbondale Comprehensive Plan committee, as well as serving in a number of other community positions over the years. Robert “Bob” Bauman was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Cook Thomas of Herrin; stepfather, Norman Thomas of Herrin; and his young brother, Geary Owen Bauman of Herrin, HHS Class of 1970. Survivors include his twin brother, William; wife, Elaine; sons, Chris of St. Louis, and Markus of Germany and New York ; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him greatly. There will be a private family service followed by a memorial service gathering of friends and associates to celebrate his life – to be announced at a later date. Arrangements will be made through Van Natta Funeral Home of Herrin. Memorials may be made to the Southern Illinois pet protection or adoption program of your choosing in the name of “Radar” his beloved dog and companion.
