HERRIN - Violette "Maxine" Harmon, 78, a golden heart, stopped beating and an angel received her wings surrounded by her loving family and friends at 11:45 p.m. Aug. 20, 2013, at home in the care of Passage Hospice. Maxine was a member of First United Methodist Church in Herrin. She was born July 4, 1935, in Dyersburg, the daughter of Grant and Edith (Black) Richey. She married Ivan Harmon Dec. 29, 1957. She was a member of Ladies Garment Workers Union and worked at Herrin Apparel and later became the bookkeeper and all around "gofer" for Ivan's Plumbing business for more than 40 years. She graduated from John A. Logan College in 1991, with an Associate of Arts Degree. Maxine truly enjoyed spending her time with family and friends and loved to watch her birds with her husband, Ivan. Survivors include her daughter, Kerri Jeralds and husband, Tom; special son and family, Joe B. Restivo and wife, Lesley Restivo, including three grandchildren, "the light of her life," Adam, Morgan and Delaney Restivo; special beloved niece, Candace (Sherrard) and husband, Joe Strong, with children, Codey Rupert Strong and fiancée, Hanna Brown, Corey Joseph Strong; nephew, Randy Sherrard and wife, Kara, with son, Brent Sherrard; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; youngest daughter, Kimberly; in 1982; infant grandson, Patrick Anthony in 1986; husband, Ivan in 2013; sister, Marguerite and brother-in-law, Jim Schofield; sister, Lucille and brother-in-law, Leburn Odum; sister, Bonita and brother-in-law, James Nichols; sister, Mary Kathryn and brother-in-law, J.C. Sherrard; sister, Elaine Richey; infant sister, Eva Louise Richey; brother, Bill and sister-in-law, Madge Richey; brother, Quentin Richey; brother-in-law, Joe and Fay Harmon; niece, Toni Kay (Harmon) Dallas; nephews, James Henry Richey, David Odum and Mark Nichols. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Van Natta Funeral Home, 427 S. Park Ave., in Herrin, with the Rev. Don Colson officiating. Interment will be in Spring Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are respectfully requested to Passages Hospice, the American Cancer Society , Juvenile Diabetes Association or Muscular Dystrophy Association.
