Leon Nelson

Leon "Red" Nelson, age 87, of Herrin, IL, died Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at Herrin Hospital in Herrin, IL. He was born in Herrin to Amer and Dossie (Hock) Nelson August 9, 1925. He was married to Joan (Tippy) Nelson she preceded him in death in 2001. Surviving are 2 sons Keith and wife Marie Nelson of Williamsfield Ohio and Michael and wife Shellie Nelson of Carterville. Leon had 2 grand children, Jeremy Nelson of Carterville and Jessica Nelson of Bourbons' Ill and 1 brother Charles and wife Rose Nelson of Cambria.He was preceded in death by his parents , wife and 2 sisters. Mr. Nelson worked at SIU in ground maintenance department for several years. Service will be Monday August 12 2013 at 11:00am at Van Natta Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Colson and Rev. Terry Griffith officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am Monday until time of service. Arrangements are being handled by Van Natta Funeral Home, 427 South Park, Herrin, IL Interment will be at Herrin City Cemetery, Herrin, IL
