CARTERVILLE — Jerome Lang Sr., 93, died Thursday, May 16, 2013, in V.A. Hospital in Marion. He was a member of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Mr. Lang volunteered at V.A. Hospital , was a mail carrier in Wheeling and a Boy Scout leader in St. Alphonsus Parrish in Chicago . He was a U.S. Army Engineer in World War II. He was born in Chicago to Martin and Harriett (Sekora) Lang Feb. 23, 1920. He is survived by his wife, Bernice (Dechniak) Lang of Carterville; two daughters, Mary Lou and husband, Jack Beyer, of Carbondale, and Chris and husband, Roger Hoehne, of Ingleside; two sons, J.C. Lang of Carterville, and John M. Lang of Ingleside; one sister Beatrice Bruhn of St. Charles; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, with Monsignor Thomas D. Flach officiating. There will be no visitation. Interment will be in San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin, with military rites preformed by American Legion and VFW Post of Herrin and the Illinois National Guard Honors Team from Marion . Van Natta Funeral Home at 427 S. Park Ave. , in Herrin, is in charge of arrangements.
