John Sherrard HERRIN — John Charles “J.C.” Sherrard, 76, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013, in Herrin Hospital . Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, in Van Natta Funeral Home, 427 S. Park Ave. , in Herrin with the Rev. Don Colson officiating. Interment will be in Spring Grove Cemetery . Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or American Lung Association. Mr. Sherrard was assistant maintenance supervisor for Herrin Community Unit School District No. 4 for 14 years. He was a member of Redman’s Lodge in Herrin and Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 551. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved CB radio. His handle was Half-Pint. He also loved to watch sports and stock car races. He was born Sept. 28, 1936, in Herrin to Luther and Dorothy (Storme) Sherrard. He married Mary Kathryn Richie. Survivors include his daughter, Candace and husband Joe Strong of Paducah; son, Randall Alan and wife Kara Sherrard of Herrin; three grandchildren, Corey and wife Elizabeth Strong and Brent Sherrard, all of Herrin, and Codey Sherrard and fiancé Hanna Brown of Carterville; sister, Wanda and husband Ted Rosenberger of Herrin; two nieces, Susan Rosenberger and Kerri Geralds of Syracuse, N.Y.; and sister-in-law, Maxine Harmon of Chittyville. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother-in-law, Ivan Harmon; and several other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
