FERGES — Wanda Matheny, 87, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, in Herrin Hospital Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Van Natta Funeral Home, 427 S. Park Ave. , in Herrin with the Rev. Jerry Schell and the Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery . Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at the funeral home. Mrs. Matheny was born Sept. 11, 1925, in Herrin to Johnnie and Oneida Council Crompton. She married Dean Matheny June 4, 1971, and he preceded her in death Nov. 27, 1989. She was a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church . Prior to that, she was a member of Scottsboro Church in Marion . Survivors include three stepchildren, Ron (Martha) Matheny of Colorado, Barbara (John) Pierson of Maryland and Mike Matheny of Marion; five nephews, John and wife Debbie Crompton of Branson, Mo., Tom and wife Serna Crompton of Milford, Ohio, Terry and wife Terri Crompton of Salem, Randy and Gina Crompton of Herrin and Kevin and wife Debbie Crompton of Ferges; 18 great-nieces and nephews; and 20 great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Harry Crompton and Bill Ivey; sister, Hilda Crompton; and sister-in-law, Irene Crompton.
