William B Murry

Sesser- William “Bill” Murry William B. Murry passed away at 3:18 am in the Fairview nursing center in DuQuoin Ill March 4, 2012. He was born in Perry County November 16, 1922 to Xelpho and Gerti (Gilliam) Murry. Mr. Murry was married to Martha Jean (Minor) Murry in 1945. Surviving are three daughters; Willa and husband Larry Dorsey of Sesser, Janet and husband Mitch La Combe of Parker Colorado, Teresa and husband Michael Bolton of Austin Texas, two sons; Terry and wife Mary Murry of Waltonville Ill. and Larry and wife Vida Jean Murry of Tuscola Ill. Mr. Murry has 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Bill also had 3 brothers; Bobby Murry of Tamaroa Ill, Louie Murry of Springfield Ill., and Keith Murry of Marion Ill, 1 sister Mary Lou Dauskch of Tamaroa Ill. Also surviving is sister-in-law Shirley Murry of DuQouin Ill. Mr. Murry was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 1 brother Benny Murry, 2 grandchildren Amy Dye and Kenny Dorsey and brother-in-law Lowell Dauskch. Mr. Murry served in the Army during WWII and was the last surviving POW in Franklin County. He was a member of the Bear Point Freewill Baptist Church. He was a member of the Illinois State Coon Hunters Association, started the Sesser Coon Club, member of the Illinois Wildlife Federation, V.F.W and American Legion in Sesser, Superintendent of the DuQuoin State Fair for 56 years, ran the Wildlife Youth Camp at Rend Lake, was on the County School Board and worked at the Sesser Post Office for 32 years as a clerk. Was also involved in the Sesser Little League. For several years he cooked fish and raccoon for the Handicap Outdoorsman Deer Hunt. Funeral services will be Thursday March 8, 2012 at 11:00am in the Van Natta Funeral Home between Christopher and Sesser with Rev. Larry Cook officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday at the funeral home from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser with Military Rites by the American Legion and V.F.W. Post of Sesser. Memorials can be made to the Sesser Little League envelopes will be provided by the funeral home.
