Donald Ralph Holmes

Mr. Donald Holmes, , age 78, of Herrin, IL, died Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at home in Herrin, IL. Mr. Holmes was born in Herrin February 19, 1933 to Ray and Hazel (Newbold) Holmes. He was united in marriage with Shelby Tripp on September 15, 1951 Donald was retired from Carterville Lumber Yard and then went to work with his son at Herrin Roofing and Construction. Donald loved camping, fishing and sitting out in the yard with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 60 years; one son Danny and wife Pam Holmes of Herrin, three daughters Carolyn Jordan, Donna and husband Kenny Swan , Tina and husband Rick Mann all of Herrin. Also surviving is five grandsons; Timothy Holmes, Travis Swan and fiancée Lola , Noah and Aimee Swan, Cory Mann and Cory Beers all of Herrin and four granddaughters; Christina Baker, Kalie Lentz, Casey Mann and Kelsie Beers all of Herrin, two sisters Irma Holmes of Worden Ill. and Gale White of Herrin, eight great grand children and several uncles aunts nieces and nephews. Memorial donations can be make to the Herrin Elks crippled children fund envelopes will be provided by the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter Barbara Holmes. He was a wonderful and loving father, no family could be closer than his. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Arrangements are being handled by Van Natta Funeral Home, 427 South Park, Herrin, IL where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, February 17, 2012. Funeral service will be at Van Natta Funeral Home at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 18, 2012, Rev. Chris Hammonds officiating. Interment will be at Herrin City Cemetery, Herrin, IL
